My Instagram Photography Gallery @sandramardene

Hi, I’m Sandy Brown Jensen, a Fine Arts Photographer from Eugene, Oregon. “Fine Arts Photographer” means I am not a commercial photographer. I work on my own projects and show my work in galleries and juried competitions.

I’ve been writing and doing photography since fourth grade when my parents pulled all four kids out of school for a one-month road trip to Mexico. My teacher assigned me to keep a journal and to write letters back home to my class once a week. My dad gave me an Olympus PEN FT half-frame. I’ve been keeping journals and shooting with Olympus ever since.

When I first began teaching creative writing at UC Riverside, I was mentored by the great mythologist Joseph Campbell. He was the one who taught me the journey of any artist is the journey of a hero struggling to bring the Gift of Self to the world. Now I am retired and have moved my interest in poetry from the verbal to the visual, but I am still guided by his friendship and insights.

I am a radio host and arts reviewer for Viz City, KLCC’s Arts Review Program because I like to think about and talk about art.

I have been in a number of juried shows and galleries. My interest is in nontraditional landscapes that tell stories that are important to me, like this one: Climbing the Enchantments in Search of My Father. My other interest is in creating one of kind gold-foiled images that are available from me, of course, and also at the Karin Clarke Gallery at the Gordon in Eugene, Oregon.

This is me showing off a gold-foiled image, “Mt. Pisgah: The Last of the Light,” which I love so much. It is still for sale for $325.

I live down by the Willamette River with my husband and two cat companions. I am a weight lifter and a hiker as well as a dedicated home cook.

My interest is in nontraditional views of the world, a view closer to my internal vision, so I shoot with Lensbaby lenses as well as with creative iPhone apps such as Hipstamatic. I use Bazaart for composites. My favorite photography teacher is Laura Valenti, e-course genius. My dream is to live for a year in Paris and to have a gallery show there.
